Opening of Boston Colonial theatre praised as world class
Dexter Smith describes the new Colonial in Boston built by Ames estate sponsors as a monument of beauty and taste with satin wood and marble pillars. Critics compare it to Vienna’s Stadt Theatre, praising architecure, lack of metalwork glare, and seating visibility. Managers Rich Harris and Charles Frohman bring Ben Hur and varied entertainments. Boston hails the palace as a cultural gateway and future drama hub.

Hanley Plans Purely American Centerboard Yacht For Cup Race
Quincy builder C C Hanley forms a syndicate to construct a wooden centerboard yacht to defend the America’s Cup against Sir Thomas Lipton’s Shamrock. The boat, to be built at Town River, Quincy Point, will cost under 75000 dollars, covering construction, crew wages, and all racing expenses. The plan contrasts with costly bronze-keel yachts and aims to keep costs modest while pursuing victory.
