To Be or Not to Be English Actors and American Stage
Fanny Davenport argues the American stage can host both English and American talent without shutting out either. She cites Irving Coquelin Salvini and others, lauds English stars for elevating drama, and warns against turning art into pure commerce. Rich opposes blanket limits, urging balance and local audience power to decide. Melbourne McDowell backs live and let live in the trade.
