Fire claim and state Grange meeting in Maine

A Mrs. Boler died after her clothing caught fire when a kerosene lamp burst in Oldtown on Tuesday. At Lewiston on Thursday the state Grange elected F B Hunter and Lyory Lord to the executive committee. The Mutual Aid society reported prosperity and two mutual fire insurance companies in good condition. Officers salaries were kept the same as last year. Prof C L Whitney spoke on Grange advancement and David Flint of California addressed the gathering. The meetings drew larger attendance than any previous day.

The Catholic population of Great Falls totals 5809 with 3000 French Canadians. William H. Dodge of Dover, once disbarred a year ago, charges City Marshal Libbey with misconduct including letting many drunks go untried and misdirected fees owed to the city. The matter will be reviewed by the board of aldermen. In Rye Beach a burglars raid on the store and post office left the property intact. small items were stolen and Emery UC. Springfield clerk charged with stealing letters in post office

Frederick H. Earle a clerk at the Springfield post office was arrested after about 30 mutilated letters were found on him. Investigations by postal officer Field followed complaints from Masonic and Odd Fellows relief societies about missing dues letters. Earle allegedly confessed to stealing letters for three months and is bound over in 32,000 for examination next Tuesday.
