Washington dispatch reports high pressure in the Missouri valley bringing fair and continued cold weather. Friday and Saturday are expected to be fair with light to moderate northwesterly winds across Eastern New York and areas east of the Mississippi.

Officials of the Boston Custom House seized four antique tapestries and bric-a-brac from Miss Frances H. Stearns proprietor of the Gift Shop on Boylston Street alleging unpaid duties. Miss Stearns claims the goods arrived with duties paid or a mistake due to illness during inspection. Secret service men Fentz and Stowe aided the investigation. Deputy Collector Fiske said confiscation is possible and prosecution depends on evidence of intent to evade the law. Collector Lyman to act on return from Washington.
A Harvard student stood with a hat in Memorial Hall, violating long-standing dining hall etiquette. Harvard officials publicly shamed him, depriving him of hall privileges and underscoring strict rules against hats at meals.
Robert MacKorrer a 25 year old freight brakeman who had recently arrived from Londonderry Ireland and worked for the New York New Haven Hartford railroad was killed when his head struck an overhead bridge near Hebronville. Several brakemen have perished in similar accidents at the same bridge.
New York Dec 19 The Amalgamated Copper directors issued a statement with the dividend cut detailing copper trade conditions. They note Europe’s weak market and rising non domestic supplies reducing exports by about 65 000 tons while domestic use grows. The firm price policy shields producers from price drops and avoids demoralizing manufacturers. They claim agents will not flood the market and cite over 100 million pounds sold for future delivery this month.
