State Plans Minimum Wage for Women and Children
Massachusetts moves to set a minimum weekly wage for women and children. A wage commission and boards will report findings to the State commission which can compel employers to pay the proposed minimum. Lawmakers and courts are expected to challenge the bill, but officials are confident it will pass. The plan mirrors Australian law and aims to reach large mills and factories with strong enforcement powers. The commission will publish its findings after hearings across many occupations.
