The Senate votes unanimously to ratify Taft’s notification ending the 1832 treaty allowing mutual residence. The Lodge joint resolution passes as a substitute for Sulzer, omitting a finding of treaty violation. House expected to concur.
A broken spring on an elevated railroad car last night halted service from Sullivan Square to Forest Hills between 6:05 and 7:00 PM. Thousands of Christmas shoppers and others were delayed for an hour or more or forced to find alternate travel home.
Five car train left a tunnel and mounted a Castle Street elevated track. A snap under the fourth car caused the rear corner to drop while the third rail was struck by a broken spring, lighting the district as cars lurched. Passengers, especially women, faced danger as the car threatened to fall.
Charles A. Moore of this city known as the man with the sixth sense filed a voluntary bankruptcy petition in the U S District Court. He owes $10 465 and lists only his clothing household goods burial rights in a local cemetery as assets. His title of Doctor Moore comes from his many women patients.

The act repeals the section allowing employers to refuse employment unless an employee waives rights to sue at common law. Once the act takes effect, employers may require this waiver as a condition of employment. With it, they avoid common law liability and face only the employer's liability statute. The act's changes to common law are its most important parts. If employees sue, defenses like negligence assumption of risk or fellow worker fault have denied recovery in many cases.
