Sheriff held to bail over intercepted jail letter case

McHenry county sheriff Eddy is held to bail on charges of intercepting and opening a prisoner Henry J. White’s mailed letter. The piece, sent to H. B. Sessions in Maquoketa Iowa, was opened by Eddy before posting, and a copy taken. The article notes post office law violations and cites other regional robberies and public finance debates.

Boston Theatrical Benefit Draws Poor Attendance

The Boston Theatre hosted a benefit for Mr and Mrs Thorne with poor turnout but pleasing performances and hearty applause.
