Rome reports show the entire garrison mobilized to stop a large mob near the French embassy upset over the Pope. Troops and cavalry repelled several break through attempts with injuries reported as guards encircle the Vatican and all approaches are heavily guarded.
Mrs. Sarah Clara Davis, a Long Island almshouse resident, learns that her sister Mrs. Mary J. L. McDaniel is jailed in New York for perjury over a claim Davis is dead. The sisters are heirs to the Helen Pierce estate of over 300000 dollars, with further actions involving Cambridge sister Mrs. Helen Perry and Boston lawyers seeking justice and probate.
Long an elusive figure Mrs Davis admitted July 18 1902 under the name Mrs Sarah Clara Davis was committed to a hospital two days later. Claimed widow occupation cook and daughter of Henry Black of Scotland with a mother Helen Hoffman of a British family. Despite fine appearance and nobility she remains mute and uncommunicative after visitors and a will claim. Superintendent English doubts dementia and notes her constant silence and refined demeanor as officers seek reasons for her silence.
The estate of Mrs. Helen Pierce of Boston is tied to a Bronx perjury case involving her niece Mrs. Mary J. L. McDaniel. McDaniel, 30, was jailed at The Tombs after a bail request failed while grand jury action was pending. Her defense plans a habeas corpus petition as foreclosure on related property proceeds.

Ex mayor B B Johnson of Waltham and Excise Commissioner Ired A Kinnery spar over midnight selling as the Watch and Ward Society challenges the Excise Board. Johnson says only 25 “high class” hotels qualified, and the Legislature was told that others would not receive permits under the act.

Mrs Margery Clark was found with a revolver in hand beside Algernon S Atwood who lay dead, and Clark died later after Atwood’s removal to City Hospital. The pair reportedly lived together with uncertain marriage status. Atwood, once a traveling salesman, died after 9 this morning.
Two prominent Boston police captains are listed in critical condition. Captain John T. O Lalor of Station 5 is home at 16 Michigan Avenue after injuries from alighting a streetcar a month ago. Captain Daniel E. Curran of Division 9, resident of 71 Centre Street Roxbury, suffered a paralytic shock weeks ago and remains in bad shape.
Thousands gathered in Rome near the French embassy as anti Vatican demonstrators led by radical Socialists formed a candlelit mock procession to protest clerical influence. Police and cavalry blocked access to the Apostolic Palace. several arrests reported amid chants supporting France and Clemenceau.
