Tarred and feathered student expelled at Wyoming Seminary

Charles Durciek a Wyoming Seminary student from Freeland Luzerne county was tarred and feathered on campus after police found a stolen $10 bill in a shoe. About thirty students signed a note pledging to stand together and Durciek was expelled by President Sprague after a late night break in and confession. Durciek cried in his room as the student body ended the incident.

Pacific Cable Company Incorporation in Trenton

The Pacific Cable Company was incorporated in Trenton New Jersey with capital stock of 1 million dollars. The incorporators include Abram Hewitt D O Mills G M Dodge Fred D Grant and Wagner Swayne of New York James J Hill of St Paul and Z B Spalding of San Francisco. The company aims to construct and operate electric cables in the Pacific Ocean with telegraph lines and connections for transmission of messages. Connections are expected with the Hawaiian islands.

Strike Ordered by Philadelphia Railway Workers

At a meeting of the Amalgamated Association of Railway Employees executive committee in Philadelphia on December 16, an order to strike the Union Traction Company lines was declared. Jury for Stockwell Opens in Manchester Murder Trial

A jury trial began in Nashua for Fred A. Stockwell charged with murdering Manchester police Sergeant Henry McAllister. The May 21 incident at Manchester Police Station led to the Supreme Court session opening at 11 a.m. Stockwell pleaded not guilty as proceedings started and a recess followed.

Fitzsimmons Signs for El Paso Fight Versus Maher

Dan A. Stuart of Dallas, president of Florida A. &., announced signing Maher and Fitzsimmons for a February 14 bout near El Paso for the championship and a $10,000 purse. Quinn, Maher's manager, objected to terms but later changed stance after talks. Ernst Defeats Abbott in Paterson Stag Fight

Billy Ernst clearly defeated Stanton Abbott over eight rounds at the Active Athletic Club with the referee naming Ernst winner. Other bouts saw Jimmy Anthony of Australia beat local Dave O Connors, a Chicago fighter draw with J Frank Hughes, and Jimmy Watson of Paterson win a six round confrontation over George Walmsley for Passaic county title.

Metropolitan Boston to consider London style county council

A Boston commission member says a metropolitan Boston plan is being drafted for the Legislature. The proposal, still undecided, envisions a metropolitan county with a county council managing parks water and sewers and replacing Suffolk county. The commissioners plan to submit their bill and report by January to the Legislature.

The Mayor vetoed an order granting Alice Langford a license to sell flowers on the streets citing concerns from the police department and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children about issuing licenses to minors. Four Narrowly Escape Gas Sufocation in Bakery Fire

Four men Kasunof 43 of 317 Harrison avenue Herman Proof 45 Paul Chernowsky 40 and Ivan Grascharow 35 narrowly escaped death by gas in David Kasanof bakery at 203 Harrison avenue. An unusual odor prompted Kasanof to seek a plumber but none found. He then searched himself as the four were nearly overcome by escaping gas from a defective pipe in the building part of the Wal estate.
