John A. E. Moroney a Suffolk bar member collapsed in the Superior Court detention room after swallowing cyanide while officers attempted to stop him. He was rushed to Relief Hospital where doctors fight to save him as his condition remained critical and life is in danger.
Moroney was brought to the detention room yesterday afternoon by Inspector Rooney. He passed through the criminal court where Judge Aiken heard sentences. A bottle was spotted as Moroney tried to pass a drink to his lips, prompting a search by Court Officer James R. Brickley.
William Donovan aged 51 of 18 Third Street South Boston died of a fractured skull at City Hospital last night after slipping on stairs on Sunday while visiting a friend on Boston Street South Boston.
London dispatch reports Belgrade, capital of Servia, recaptured by Serbs after four months of bombardment and a furious defense against Austrians who entered December 2. The German invaders aimed to avenge their setback as fighting continued.

Three men jumped from a shadow and robbed Miss Annie Griffin on Sawyer Street Roxbury after threatening her. A second robbery followed an hour later as they entered Charles Ross’s store at 49 Northfield Street, striking him with a blackjack and taking a small sum.
Police have no clues to the identity of three youths who robbed stores during the carnival on Dudley street. A gang is suspected after a string of recent holdups. Witness Miss Griffin identifies the suspects as aged 20 to 22 with heights from five feet seven to five feet ten, wearing dark coats, rain coats, caps and gray hats.
The Boston Elevated Carmen's Union faces internal strife that may disrupt the union. Charges include improper practices in the recent election, embezzlement of a letter to an international organizer, and missing fund accounting. Two mass meetings at Tremont Temple will air grievances tonight at 8:30 and tomorrow at 1:30. The union claims the Elevated company reduced wages for over twenty veteran workers by 75 percent or more.
