Suburban Homes Plan Promotes Cheap Worker Housing Charters
The Anti-Tenement League and allied groups met in Charity Hall to review a report proposing a suburban cottage program for workingmen. The plan outlines three house grades priced 900, 1200, and 1500, with 30 by 60 foot to 18 by 35 foot lots, gravel soil, and 5 to 6 rooms. Weekly payments of 2.25 to 3.50 dollars could secure deeds after 15 to 21 years, with 80 percent mortgage via cooperative banks. A second aim calls for a separate corporation to house the city’s poorest tenement population. A mass meeting is set for Wednesday the 28th at People's Church with ex-Governor Brackett presiding.
