On December 12 the Halifax mortuary committee announced the toll from the Mont Blanc munitions ship blast as 1226. The total includes 476 identified, 225 identifiable from effects, 125 unrecognizable, and 400 missing.
Tonight permanent committees were appointed to systematize relief for Halifax explosion sufferers. George H. Murray of Nova Scotia heads the executive body, with Halifax’s leading citizens among the members. A. C. Ratshesky of Massachusetts urged the groups to expect heavy burdens, as Major Fitzgerald presented $2300 from soldiers under his command to the relief fund.
