Ex governor Black condemns public officials who chase popularity over justice. He warns against mob power, daily honesty bulletins, and letting wealthy lawbreakers go unpunished as the nation faces mob pressures at the White House.
Harvard students saw Professor Fukuta demonstrate jiu jitsu with three pupils then challenge spectators. Edgar Oscar Parker, ex champion lightweight of New England, fought Fukuta in a catch as catch can match. The bout ended with Parker unconscious and resuscitated, disputed as foul under American rules.

He estimated the man effectively runs a retail-like business, averaging a pint per sale, and that reducing this to glasses would net over seven thousand dollars in profit.
In Intercolonial Hall Dudley street Boston union carpenters voted unanimously to ask employers for a raise from 43 3 4 to 50 cents per hour and a Saturday half holiday year round. The current eight hour day pays $3 50 and the group backs a $4 rate. The decision binds about 6000 union carpenters in Greater Boston.
Michael McBarron president of the McBarron Steel Company died at his Roxbury residence aged 65. He resided nearly 59 years at the South End. Survived by three sons and a daughter. Funeral Saturday with a requiem Mass at Saint Patrick’s Church and interment at Holyhood Cemetery Stookline.
The Democratic National Committee selected Denver as the site for the 1908 convention to be held July 7. The committee approved accepting a $100,000 Denver contribution toward convention expenses despite opposition noting Republicans refused similar funds as a bribe. Representatives Cayton and Williams supported the resolution. Governor Hoke Smith argued the funds favored Democrats if accepted.
Lincoln Nebraska December 12 William Jennings Bryan welcomed the selection of Denver as the Democratic national convention site. He stated he had no preference among any cities between Boston and San Francisco and would not want the Philippines or Porto Rico to host, but any other location would be satisfactory.
Stanley Ketchell defeated Joe Thomas by decision after twenty rounds at Recreation Park San Francisco. The crowd watched a close fight until round fourteen with Ketchell taking control from the fifteenth onward in their third meeting with Ketchell holding two wins and a draw prior.
Mrs. Nicholas Longworth youngest daughter of President Roosevelt underwent an appendix operation at the White House. After the ether, she rallied and by nine p m a bulletin said her day was comfortable and her general condition satisfactory. The operation by Dr. Finney of Johns Hopkins succeeded with Navy Surgeon General Rixey and Dr. Sophie Nordhoff Jung assisting. She spoke briefly with relatives and slept two hours, while President Roosevelt continued his tennis game.
In a farewell letter to Dr. George W. Galvin Adele H Harrison explains she chose death by hanging at her home on 40 Harvard Street. She cites age illness and fear of asylum life as the motive and requests funeral arrangements with Lewis Jones on LaGrange Street.
Prince Robert de Broglie announced his remarriage to Estelle Alexander in Paris on December 10. The couple first wed in Chicago in August 1906, Estelle having been the divorced wife of Sydney R. West. The pair were seen in Boston a year ago where she sang in a vaudeville theater and he led the orchestra.
New Haven reports claimed Canadian Pacific offered to buy New Haven holdings in Boston and Maine stock but officials in New York dismissed the tale. Sir William Van Horne, CP board chairman, said he had seen no basis for the bid and stressed CP’s long standing policy.
A close friend claims Mayor Fitzgerald spent about $30 000 on his re election bid. Hib bard headquarters put postmaster Hibbard’s effort at under 15 000. Two years ago Fitzgerald and Republican funds ran over 100 000 each. The Good Government Association raised about 40 000 for Louis Frothingham. Mayor Fitzgerald urged youth involvement in city affairs.

Last evening the Common Council began action to rename North Square in Ward 6 and Barry's Corner in Ward 25. North Square will be Secigliane Square in memory of the former representative, and Barry's Corner becomes Boyle O'Reilly Square.
