Ralph Stimpson 22 of 66 West Sixth Street was arrested by Sgt. Con mors after using a forged Lowell Trust check for 20 dollars payable to him and signed by Francis J. Callahan. The bank paid the claim before its forgery was detected. Stimpson faced forgery and larceny charges in police court, with bail set at 300 dollars for the Superior Court.

Senate Deliberates War Revenue Subside and Ship Bill

Administration Wins Beer Tax Reduction Vote in House

Washington reports a House Republican conference debated beer tax cuts with brewers seeking about 18 million in relief. The Ways and Means plan would trim 9 million, possibly 12 million at 1.60 per barrel, but the administration pressed for 10 million total on beer. Ultimately the Hepburn resolution passed 69 to 28.

Lynn man sentenced for wife beating by Judge Berry

Daniel Buckley of Lynn was sentenced to the Stats farm yesterday morning by Judge Berry for beating his wife. Buckley had assaulted his wife Monday night then kicked her from the house and refused entry. Mrs. Buckley testified fearfully but finally expressed a desire for her husband’s removal. Buckley left the dock cursing at his wife and appealing the sentence.
