Elderly cashier charged with theft from express company

Joseph F. Minon 89 assistant cashier at New York and Boston Despatch Express Company was arrested at his Cochituate summer home for larceny of 3800 dollars. Arraigned in Natick Police Court he was bailed at 6500 dollars. Investigators believe thefts may total about 10000 dollars over a year.

Worcester December 11 Fireman W C Kirk was killed and Captain Thomas O Gara and Eugene Sweeney injured when 45000 gallons of oil at the new Connecticut River Transmission Company transforming station exploded at 1 30 this morning flames swept the $75000 structure the scene of a fatal oil blast.

Fire at Worcester oil station ignites during test

The blaze began when oil leaking from a faulty valve was lit by a lamp during a test at the new Worcester station. Flames jumped between tanks as oil stored for plant work fueled the rapid spread. The Greendale site near City Hall square aimed to supply power to local manufacturers.

At Quincy station Thomas Olsen a 16 year old Boston machinist saved his 12 year old brother John from a locomotive but died in the attempt. Both boys attended the Adams Grammar School evening classes and were at the station with others waiting for the 9 17 express to their homes.
