George W. Perkins resigns from J P Morgan & Co to devote time to extending profit sharing and other plans addressing the capital labor conflict. Announcement issued after business hours today.
Charles A. Bigelow the bald comedian formerly of Boston was committed to Kings County Hospital for examination of his sanity after being arraigned on a charge of disorderly conduct by his wife Mrs. Valeria J. Bigelow. He has ties to J. P. Morgan & Co and plans to devote time to corporation work and profit sharing initiatives.
Mrs. Bigelow was too ill to appear in court and appeared dazed while seated among awaiting prisoners. Her lawyer told Magistrate Tighe that the famed comedian had shown erratic conduct for some time. Born in 1862, he has been on the stage since age 14 and performed with Lillian Russell, Anna Held, Weber and Fields, Kitty Gordon, and in Weber's Theatre production Alma Where Do You Live.
General Henry Edwin Tremain a founder of the Grand Army of the Republic and a prominent New York lawyer died today. He recently celebrated his 70th birthday.
Tremont street subway will stay open all night and night car service will change. The new schedule does not double the night service, contrary to expectations. General Bancroft had said the company planned to keep surface cars after midnight with the subway. officials later reversed plans.
Governor-elect Eugene N. Free announced the appointment of Gardner W. Pearson of Lowell as adjutant-general. Pearson was backed by Democratic leaders Frederick J. Macleod and John F. MacDonald after a conference with them last night.
Captain Pearson, a Democrat and Lowell native with Harvard Law School training, rose from private to captain in the Spanish War and later led Company C. The adjutant-general’s office, key to militia funding, salaries, and governance, faces political maneuvering as Governor-elect Foss tours Washington and Cape Cod hints surface a harbor and land commissioner race with Judge Charles Paine as a leading contender.
Several routes including Reservoir Via Huntington Avenue Brookline Village Ashmont Milton cross town Newton Beacon Street Harvard Square Highland Avenue Somerville Cambridge Davis Square Medford East Cambridge Prospect Street will run through the subway rather than on the surface. Northbound passengers must use Adams Square or another subway station. southbound riders on Washington Street must walk to Adams Square or North Station. Haymarket Subway not open at night. Mattapan and Norfolk Street cars cease through runs with transfers at Grove Hall.

A four story brick tenement at Leverett and Barton streets in the West End caught fire, starting in the second floor Jewish synagogue. Westboro December 9 searchers recovered the body of William A. Hunt from a 15 foot well on his property. He disappeared two days earlier under mysterious circumstances. Officials theorize he fell while drawing water, struck his head on rocks, and drowned before regaining consciousness.

A 31 year old inmate at Norfolk county jail Dedham leapt from the third tier rail forty feet to the cell floor after a cry of good by. A fellow prisoner prevented the head first fall and a crisis ended without fatal injury.
A prisoner was caught by jail officer Oliver Curtis after an escape attempt. The detainee sustained minor injuries but continued to cry out and strike the granite floor until restrained. A fellow prisoner also grabbed the man’s trousers, tearing cloth away in the struggle.
Testimony from a young man who claimed the Glovers sought to adopt him and a Somerville woman who once worked in the Glover home accused Mrs. Glover. The remarks surfaced in yesterday’s proceedings with continued coverage on later pages.
