Scoring the Force Bill and Election Controversy in Senate

In Washington the Senate heard Senator Plumb’s plan to cut national bank bond requirements and favor free silver coinage, with possible timing linked to the election bill. Senators Berry and Daniel condemned the force bill, arguing it would wreck liberty and injure business, while Daniel attacked the bill as a botched product and warned against political manipulation.

In Washington on December 9, 1892, House action included intro of a census based apportionment bill proposing 356 Representatives after March 3, 1893 with state allocations led by New York 34 and Pennsylvania 30. The resolution to move General Grant’s remains to Arlington failed 92 to 154. An urgent deficiency bill appropriated 369000 for public printing. Fortification and public building measures with several local allocations were reported. House adjourned.
