Fire hits Elm and White streets armory in New York

A northeast corner brick building at Elm and White streets once the Battery B armory burned, with damage around 125000. The armory had served as military HQ during 1863 draft riots and housed General Worth's body for three days. Nearby fires include the Woodland House at Phillips Lake with 6000 value and 1500 insurance, and a Canal Street dwelling in Lowville with 1200 loss. Destructive fires also strike Sykestown paint shop, causing 50000 loss and a fatality, plus smaller blazes in Charlestown and Harrison avenue lodging house with moderate damage.

Strike to shut Clark's mills in Kearny over dismissal
