Chamberlain Sees Open Door Alliance With United States

Britain’s Secretary of State for the Colonies Joseph Chamberlain praised U S interests in the east and predicted a future where Britain and the United States guard the open door together. He highlighted shared aims with Russia Germany and Japan and spoke of a federation of the empire with colonial representation.

Unsuccessful murder attempt ends in self inflicted gunshot

George H. Ross two years old resided on Lyndeboro street Charlestown and amid family discord attempted to force wife and child to return home. He fired three shots in a first floor room two at the ceiling and one at his heart. Wounding himself fatally the 38 caliber revolver purchased yesterday. Local surgeons at Massachusetts General Hospital considered the wound fatal. The wife and child had earlier left for her mother’s in Everett. Ross then shot himself after trying to persuade his wife to return.

Miller Takes Lead In Madison Square Mile Race

At Madison Square Garden on December 9 Miller the former champion surged ahead of rival Waller after midnight and again near 1 am with Waller fading due to drowsiness. The crowd packed the Garden as Miller announced plans to wed Miss Genevieve Hansom soon.

New Telephone Franchise Faces Public Hearing in Boston

The Boston Board of Aldermen held a public hearing on granting a franchise for a Massachusetts Telephone and Telegraph Company to operate in the city. Attendees included Samuel J. Elder and Judge J C Gilman for petitioners, with opponents led by Bordman Hall and G D Allen. a manifesto signing town residents and business leaders followed.
