Doctor Vanishes After Thanksgiving Cash Heist

She refused to reveal the basis of her belief and said she had not heard from the missing physician since he vanished the day before Thanksgiving after cashing in his stocks. The cash and two Haines family cars also disappeared. Continued on Page 21 Seventh Col.

Smith College Girls Taxed For Northampton Budget Help

Mayor Harry J. Bicknell urged taxing Smith College students more to aid Northampton finances. He cited fur coats and silk stockings, saying dormitory taxes could fund board and lodging. He favored budget controls for school boards and state curbs on committee extravagance.

Irish deputy slain at hotel as Parliament bound

John Hales a deputy of the Irish Parliament was shot and killed while leaving the Ormond Hotel for Parliament. Brigadier General Patrick O Maille sworn in as deputy speaker yesterday was seriously wounded with head and arm injuries.

British soldiers open fire on assailants in chase scene

A lorry load of British soldiers arrived on scene and opened fire on deputies' assailants who scattered and were pursued. It is not known whether any attackers were injured.

Pitiful tale of girl who attempted suicide in Springfield

Anna Trasimo, 20, a Russian immigrant, told Springfield police she fled cold and hunger after her roommate stole her clothes and money. She hid under a mattress in a closet of the long unused Breck mansion, tried to die by exposure, was found by Mrs. Edith Breck, and rushed to a hospital. Doctors say her condition is serious but not critical.

Falls Cause Fatal Injuries On Freight Train

RED Starvey 38 of Allston was fatally injured last evening after falling from the top of a freight train near Muster avenue crossing in Chelsea. A freight conductor for the Boston and Maine railroad, he toppled between two cars in snowy conditions. His right leg was severed above the knee and his left leg crushed, necessitating amputation above the ankle at Chelsea Memorial Hospital.
