Mrs. George A. Haines of 641 Broadway Everett believes her husband Dr. G A Haines who allegedly eloped with nurse Natalie Rogan will come home. She says there is nothing to prove he left for good and expects his return.
She refused to reveal the basis of her belief and said she had not heard from the missing physician since he vanished the day before Thanksgiving after cashing in his stocks. The cash and two Haines family cars also disappeared. Continued on Page 21 Seventh Col.
Mayor Harry J. Bicknell urged taxing Smith College students more to aid Northampton finances. He cited fur coats and silk stockings, saying dormitory taxes could fund board and lodging. He favored budget controls for school boards and state curbs on committee extravagance.
John Hales a deputy of the Irish Parliament was shot and killed while leaving the Ormond Hotel for Parliament. Brigadier General Patrick O Maille sworn in as deputy speaker yesterday was seriously wounded with head and arm injuries.
A lorry load of British soldiers arrived on scene and opened fire on deputies' assailants who scattered and were pursued. It is not known whether any attackers were injured.
The Commission of the Necesaries of Life chaired by Eugene C. Hultman urges the Legislature to extend the emergency fuel administrator’s life to April 30, 1924. He blames coal magnates for shortages and calls for using bituminous coal, coke, wood, and bricquettes. A $10,000 MIT substitute research appropriation is proposed.

A youth seeks habeas corpus claiming his intended bride is detained by her parents to thwart their wedding. The court verdict terms the matter a joke. Woodhouse declares the winner will never get it. The young Mrs Woodhouse is said to obtain a watch from a pawn arrangement.
Mrs Woodhouse married Sept 29 1918. If she gets full award it equals 304.10 daily for every day of her married life. The 465000 award equals 47.10 per day for the 27 year old wife’s life.

United News reports P Henry Murphy served as a subway motorman and his wife a conductorette. When their son began kindergarten he introduced himself as William Transfer Murphy, revealing an unusual middle name derived from the family story.
One person dies in a sudden cold spell in Lexington Massachusetts. Emilia Warner Franks aged 70 was found exhausted in the woods near her Ridge road home and died before help arrived. A brisk snow storm swept New England with near two inches of snow in Greater Boston and a thaw is expected today as warmer temperatures return.
Anna Trasimo, 20, a Russian immigrant, told Springfield police she fled cold and hunger after her roommate stole her clothes and money. She hid under a mattress in a closet of the long unused Breck mansion, tried to die by exposure, was found by Mrs. Edith Breck, and rushed to a hospital. Doctors say her condition is serious but not critical.

RED Starvey 38 of Allston was fatally injured last evening after falling from the top of a freight train near Muster avenue crossing in Chelsea. A freight conductor for the Boston and Maine railroad, he toppled between two cars in snowy conditions. His right leg was severed above the knee and his left leg crushed, necessitating amputation above the ankle at Chelsea Memorial Hospital.
