Shortly after 7 o'clock tonight Turnkey Lanahan making his rounds found Abney dead by hanging from the bars of the jail cell. The grim sight prompted immediate inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death and whether foul play was involved. Authorities began securing the scene and questioning witnesses as the investigation continues.
