Brave action by patrolman saves two men from runaway horse
Ex councilman William H. Reth and Thomas McCarthy of Charles Town escaped serious harm last night when a horse pulling their sleigh bolted after a snow plough on Main Street. Reserve Officer Norton of Station 15 sprang into the street, tackled the horse, and brought it to a stop after being dragged about 50 yards. Both men were unharmed.

Father Died As Children Danced At Lamplighters Ball
Thomas Fitzgerald died of heart failure around 10 PM after leaving the Lamplighters ball with his three daughters. He collapsed near Tre Mont and Pembroke streets and was pronounced dead at Ward 12 Republican Club rooms. A respected lamplighter and Cathedral parish volunteer, he lived at 48 Union Park Street and had long served as Sunday school superintendent. The tragedy dampened the event for attendees.
