District Attorney and police report a swift action against Cobb accused of securing $86,000 in loans by pledging mining stock as collateral. Marie Le Claire denies owning any stock tied to the pledge. Cobb faces $25,000 bail as investigators pursue the case.
Walter Johnson, premier American League pitcher, signed with the Chicago Federal league club, announced by Charles Weeghman, president of the local team. The report also notes A. J. Orem, head of the Prohibition Party, pledging stock at three dollars a share worth sixty two cents, with more arrests anticipated and over twenty five thousand dollars lost in double pledging of jewels.
The Post’s blockbuster expose reveals embezzlement at the Collateral Loan Company. William Cobb, its president, is jailed on charges of looting $1.2 million with $86 000 bail set, while other figures and a web of pledged stock tied to Nevada Douglas emerge in investigations led by Assistant District Attorney Lavelle.

They will not be deterred by labor protest as United Shoe Workers threaten walkout if arbitration opinion is sought. About 20,000 workers may be affected. Michael J. Tracy criticized the method used by manufacturers at the Chamber’s industrial committee as the disputed issue.
Eugene D. Russell principal of Lynn Classical High School was elected president of the Handel and Haydn Society to succeed the late William Frothingham Bradbury. The election followed a stormy special meeting called by the board of governors to avert a potential split.
Months of tension erupt over electing a successor to Mr. Bradbury. J W Risdon of Cambridge leads a faction urging vacancy until May term end. A second group argues for a president to oversee the society during its centennial year beginning after Easter. Russell, as vice president, may take duties but says he bears responsibility due to the president’s death.
A Jamaica Plain inbound car and a Harvard Square prepayment car collided on the Tremont Street subway between Boylston and Park streets last night. William J. Jennings of Roxbury was taken to Relief Hospital with abdominal contusions after being tossed in the vestibule. Officials blamed Motorman Connolly of the Jamaica Plain car for not waiting for the other car to pass, with Conductor Bell and the Harvard Square crew named in the incident.

In Fall River on December 3 a jury acquitted Mrs. Mabel A. Scudder of murder in the second degree in the death of her Taunton area brother-in-law Edgar C. Scudder. The verdict came on the fifth ballot after five and a half hours of deliberation with jurors split on manslaughter among two or three members.
The crowded courtroom watched as the jury announced its verdict. William Macy of New Bedford delivered the decision while onlookers, including Mrs Scudder, reacted with tears and applause from the throng gathered in the corridor.
Walter Johnson's deal with the Chicago club of the Federal league calls for 20000 dollars a year under a three year contract. Philip Ball of the St Louis club said St Louis bid first and Johnson accepted, with funds to be deposited and 31000 upfront after signing. Chicago obtained Eddie Plank in the trade.
Walter Johnson told via telephone from his Coffeyville farm that President Weegharm’s claim Chicago Federals signed him for two years is true, but he declined to reveal the salary. Continued on Page 16 Seventh Col.
James Lynch five of 96 Bowen Street South Boston was bitten on the head by a horse while on the sidewalk in front of 98 West Fifth Street last night. He was taken to Carney Hospital and placed on the dangerous list. The skull fracture was caused by the horse’s teeth. The animal was owned by Sumner Crosby Grain Company of 75 Dorchester Avenue.
