U S naval units are sent toward both coasts of Central America to defend American lives and property in Nicaragua. The troop ship Prairie carrying 700 marines sailed from Philadelphia this afternoon as part of the move.
Ward chairmen in most Boston Democratic wards declared for former Mayor John F Fitzgerald last night. Ward 9 in Donovan’s home precinct broke with the trend, while Wards 2 7 10 remain undecided and Ward 16 stays divided.
Morgan takes control of the Equitable Life Assurance Society, securing its assets of 472 million dollars. The transfer, achieved after the earlier insurance scandals, marks a major reversal in the history of finance.

They seek 5 percent raises for workers earning $9 or less, recognition of their new union, and a 50 cent weekly reel boy raise. No evictions will occur during arbitration talks.

South Framingham reports a 17 year old, Hinman Knowlton, charged with shooting his father Frederick P. Knowlton and his stepmother at 31 Henry Street. He says he was sleepwalking and not sure of the outcome. He is out on $500 bail. He is a humane society medal holder noted for rescuing two people from drowning.
In Worcester a 40 year old Knowlton, proprietor of Knowlton Business College, is shot at his Concord street residence. His wife Harriet Whittier identifies a step son Hinman Knowlton as owner of the revolver used. Hinman, asleep in a second floor room, denies involvement as police begin inquiry.
Isaac W. Mandelstam testified that Elisha Greenwood urged him to make certain statements before Mandelstam claimed they were untrue. The accusation drew wide interest in government circles during the Caner-Freedman bankruptcy case in U S District Court before Judge Dodge.

A heavy northeasterly gale along the Massachusetts coast yesterday caused two wrecks and three deaths. Eleven crew members were rescued by government and volunteer lifesavers. Off Nantucket the Vaderland saved seven from the Eugene Borda, while at Cape Cod the Mizpah foundered with three dead and four saved by breeches buoy.
George Reppol aged 55 and his son Ray were found semi conscious in the bottom of their 20 foot open gasoline boat as it drifted at sea. The Augusta Evelyn schooner 40 miles offshore located and rescued them.
A.M. forecast for Boston and vicinity on Friday calls for fair conditions, with Saturday unsettled and warmer and possible showers. New England forecast notes partly cloudy Friday and Saturday with light to moderate northeast to east winds and steamers to European ports may expect fair weather toward the Grand Banks.
