Saxonia Docked After Quarantine Calm in Heavy Atlantic Weather

The Cunard liner Saxonia, captained by Pritchard, docked at East Boston after rough seas from Queenstown to the Grand Banks and fog near Sable Island. Passengers included Mrs Chambers and Miss Farmer among others. The New England, a sister ship, arrived later. other vessels faced gales, a hurricane’s tail, and a tidal wave that damaged cabins and lifeboats. Cargo ships discharged sugar and grain shipments to Europe showed improvement, with dozens of vessels readied for an approaching busy week of sailings to Liverpool, London, and Rotterdam ahead of Christmas.
