A white man named David Lee was lynched at Start's landing in Catahoula parish days ago in front of his home for hog stealing. About 20 white individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident. Two brothers, Chism and James Smith, are arrested on suspicion of involvement and face possible lynching by citizens.

In The Hague dispatches report extensive Holland floods with six feet of water in Cologne Bonn and submerged 490 houses at Bonn. Paris notes the Seine rising as Dublin curfews loom while British MPs clash over Irish land acts and trials.
Ex mayor Lise and wardens of the Unitarian church in Portsmouth rang the church bell Thursday night in place of the 9 o'clock curfew as aldermen had discontinued it, drawing public attention. A new Catholic church by Father Power at South Newmarket was dedicated Thursday with high ceremonies. Bishop Healey, assisted by 14 clergymen, celebrated solemn mass at 10 am. Wollard mass in B flat sung by a procession from Immaculate Conception.
By direction of Sheriff Herrick the prisoners in the house of correction at Lawrence were given a splendid Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday. The town of Brookfield has just received a gift of $10,000 from a former resident for a public library building. A library previously had been given by Judge Merricks, Alexander McAuley of Boston, aged about 35, was accidentally killed at Gloucester Thursday getting on board the 5 o'clock train. At the republican municipal convention held in Haverhill Thursday night, nominations were made for mayor Moses, at large Hiram Pearson, aldermen George W. Sherburne H. G. Gase Jesse H. Harriman J Otis Wardwell Robert A. Richardson Nathaniel K. Johnson. The citizens caucus will be held Friday evening.
A quiet Thanksgiving marked by universal holiday observance in Providence. The Catholic Total Abstinence union for the Providence diocese held its annual convention in Pawtucket. Officers elected include President Rev. James Welch, vice presidents J. W. Smyth and Michael Galler, recording secretary John McCusker, financial secretary John Fitzpatrick, and treasurer Bernard Gonnell from Providence.
In Cincinnati at the Coliseum theatre during Si Slocum Frank Frayne aimed at the apple of Lucy Slocum played by Annie Von Behren but missed and shot her in the head she died within fifteen minutes. Frayne was arrested bond set at five thousand dollars and the theatre closed for the night.
Baton Rouge reports the governor calls a Feb 8 election to fill the Sixth District congressional seat after the death of Gen Herron. The third district vote has been promulgated without a certificate issued. Kellogg leads with a 1 887 majority.

Citizens of Montreal organize a January carnival from the 23rd to the 27th to entertain visitors from the United States. Hugh Graham and R D McGibbon lead arrangements with many prominent Montreal figures on a committee to fund and promote events including tobogganning, skating, a parade, ball, historical procession, snowshoe races, and a night illuminated ice palace on the St Lawrence river.
Horace Thacker, 16, a negro, was arrested by central office detectives and held at police headquarters. Two years earlier he was sentenced to 10 years for barn burning in Cam bridge, Massachusetts, escaped on November 1 by tying bed sheets and sliding down from the third story. Thanksgiving was observed with church services and club parades, and business paused.

Dr. William D. Corkin remains in confinement at the public station awaiting arraignment on a charge of possessing obscene literature. Bail of 4000 dollars was discussed but declined as tied to further charges. Reports describe depraved habits and a past connection to Miss Mary McAuliffe’s death.
Rev C Herbert Richardson of McKendree Methodist Church attacked politics and prosecutors over star route cases. He condemned the conduct of concealing a stenographer and the Justice Department. He said such acts revolt public conscience and deserve harsher judgment than a felon’s cell.
The term of Attorney General George Marston ends December 31. Philadelphia native Will Wannemacher, son of Charles Wannemacher of Newell, Sturdevant & Co., is set to impersonate Christ in the Passion Play to be produced in New York. Despite no professional acting experience, he prepared three years for the role, studying under Lewis Morrison and later law, military service, temperance work, and serious efforts to fit the part with responsibility.
A Citizens Temperance committee did not attend a Wednesday meeting. The city committee discussed three mayoral candidates Beede Kimball and French. Kimball has long service as assessor, Beede is a prohibitionist alderman, French is a state legislator. A caucus date is to be set and a four cornered Workingmen's party nominating contest looms. Nathan Clark may be a contingently strong, unite-the-party candidate. Also reports: John Heffernan dies after stairs fall, Patrick Hanley jailed for turkey theft, and Patrick Galvin in custody for non support.
