Birdmen at Squantum Light Meet Faces Mixed Prospects

Ovington will debut his racing machine in Boston with the Chicago speed events the focus. Tom Sopwith aims to race when his monoplane may not be ready after a blown cylinder head. Lincoln Beachey arrives with his altitude record biplane and will perform stunts while Beachey’s credibility as a daring aviator is noted. The day's main race runs Squantum Field to Boston Light and back.

Dangerous truss claims drive patients to dangerous operations

The Clothe Truss Cure Claim for Rupture Relief

An ad promises a clothing truss that holds a rupture and provides a continuous massage to strengthen the area. It touts a 199 of 200 success claim from day one, offers a free trial, and markets an 82 page cloth bound book detailing risks of surgery and why other devices fail. The ad directs readers to request the free book by mail.

Atwood and Grahame-White to Skip Rival Speed Tests

The Squantum air meet rehearsals promise contests in quick starting accuracy landing weight dropping and altitude speed climbing. Star flyers Atwood and Grahame-White will not compete head to head due to different machines. Grahame-White’s Nieuport mono plane with 70 hp engine versus Atwood’s Burgess-Wright biplane gives the Englishman a speed edge, making a fair contest unlikely this year.
