Colonel William F Cody known as Buffalo Bill hosts a breakfast for prominent American tourists in Paris including Edison Hoey Depew Daly Rehan and others. The Wald West show later drew a large ovation for Mr Edison as seventy five guests attended the breakfast and reception with the U S minister Whitelaw Reid among the invitees.

At Godhharles & Co. nail factory in South Towanda Pennsylvania a boiler exploded around 2 pm. Five men were killed instantly and several others injured or may die. The boiler was hurled seventy feet, wrecking the building and damaging the railroad track. Coroner plans an inquest. damages estimated at 15 000 to 20 000 dollars.
Aug 27 at Camp Burleigh Augusta Maine the Second day opened clear and bright. The First Regiment company team match yielded fine scores and the 9 30 skirmish match followed. A dress parade drew many visitors. The total strength reported 708 men in camp.

In Lia O Aug 27 striking Italians at the new railroad forced other employees from the site and threatened violence. This afternoon thirteen Italians were arrested by the constable and a deputy posse and jailed. Guards and militia were placed on alert as more Italians threatened to free the prisoners.
