Receipts and detailed entries will track each letter and package, with boys preferred as messengers at up to 30 dollars monthly. The Supreme Council of the Legion of Honor met at the law school in Ashburton Place with Commander Nisbett presiding. Officers reported receipts from July 1 1883 to June 30 1885 totaling 3 324 091 65 with 1003 orders paid and a net unapproriated balance of 2 091 65. Death statistics show 1061 deaths with 16 471 acceptances and 1860 rejections from 1883 to 1885. Delegates toured Boston area attractions at 3 PM.

Twelfth Massachusetts regiment reunion held in Springfield

The thirty-first Massachusetts regiment held its twelfth annual reunion at the Grand Army hall in Springfield. Eleven members died in the past year. Officers reelected include President L. F. Rice and Secretary H. M. Conty, with a dinner served by the women's relief corps. About 160 members attended. next year’s meeting planned.

Three Suspects Nabbed After Canton Street Burglary

About 10 AM Thursday, three men broke into James B. Cutter’s dwelling at 188 West Canton. Police found an old express wagon with a white horse and Michael Hanrahan, 13, under canvas in the wagon. John Murphy and Frank Keegan, 15, were taken in. jewelry valued at $25 and a butter tub were recovered. The trio, who dressed as soapgrease peddlers, also tried Alfred Wilkie’s 74 Waltham and William M. Henston’s 406 Columbus entries, allegedly from Somerville.

Deaths Strike Fall River G A R Post in Six Months

In Fall River Massachusetts on August 27 Comrade John Ratford aged about sixty died shortly after falling ill while escorting the remains of Comrade John Lynch. Ratford rode in a carriage and lived with Lynch. He served in company D first Rhode Island cavalry. This brings seven deaths in the post within six months.

Deaths of William H. Wilkinson and Wilbur Fiske Claflin

William H. Wilkinson aged 68 died August 26 at the Parker House after 18 years of residence in Boston. He was born in the North End of Boston, worked in a shipping store, lived in Australia, and served as trustee with an office on State street. He left two sisters and two nephews including a hardware dealer on Washington Street. Wilbur Fiske Claflin, brother of ex Govern William Claflin, died August 27 in Hopkinton at 55 from diabetes. He was born in Milford, leaves a widow and two sons, and built a lengthy career with Claflin Coburn & Co in Boston and in Hopkinton boosed as a leading, wealthy citizen. He was a prominent Methodist, a Hopkinton National Bank director, and held many trusts.
