Democratic nominee William Jennings Bryan visited Erie after stops at Angola Dunkirk Westfield and more drawing large crowds in roaring cheers. He spoke at Sclosser's Hall and St Patrick's Auditorium addressing farmers workers and clubs while praising popular government and criticizing corporate influence. The day ended with a reception at the Reed House and a late speech at the Opera House outlining his campaign vision and money policy.
Lillian Coyle four, of 34 Hall Street Jamaica Plain, was killed instantly on the Nantasket electric railway near the Putnam House. Her uncle suffered a broken arm as the train struck the group walking on the track. The aunt was shaken but unhurt. Doctors Sturgis and Spooner attended, but the child died at once. the uncle left for Boston after treatment.
Women passengers were shocked when a trolley wire broke yesterday on Washington Street Newton as a car passed underneath. The wire fell in coils around the car and struck two women, causing severe nervous strain though no burns. Superintendent Henderson blamed weakening wire and splices from frequent changes and street renovations.
William Corcoran aged 30 of 172 Boston Street East Boston was struck by a train on the New York New Haven Hartford line near Roxbury crossing and fatally injured. He was found unconscious and taken to City Hospital with internal injuries.
This evening Said Kalid received an ultimatum to surrender by 9 o'clock tomorrow morning or the palace will be bombarded. British residents are to board warships by 8 am. Kalid commands about 2500 armed men. Some believe the sultan died by poison and that British influence could rise in Zanzibar.
Mr. and Mrs. William Tu. Cliffe of Philadelphia report a purse theft aboard an electric car after alighting at Albany Depot. The chatelaine bag contained two solitaire diamond rings valued at 100 dollars each and 31 dollars in cash. The loss is believed to have occurred on the car.
