Grand Army Parade Captivates Buffalo Leaders and Public

The Grand Army parade in Buffalo drew about 45 000 veterans and a cheering crowd of around 500 000. President McKinley led the line and rode to the reviewing stand amid honors from Gov. Black and Gen. Alger, ending with a late morning breakfast at the hotel.

Leaders Depart in Carriage Procession Through Dense Crowd

After breakfast the President General Alger Governor Black and staff left in carriages to lead the column. The hotel crowd packed the street forcing police to clear a path while riders kept the crowd from the horses. The head of the column reached the front as the party awaited orders to move.

Fearful Arkansas lynchings reported amid riot violence

Reports from Arkansas describe a deadly mob action in Cleburne county with six black men hanged without trial. In Drew county a deputy posse burned a rapist in his home and a black murderer’s body hung from a Pine Bluff trestle. A Kendall picnic riot injured a white man, S T Johnson, who died. Authorities moved six more arrestees toward Orison jail as mobs threatened further lynchings.

Crescent Beach collision injures seven on railroad cars

A Crescent Beach division car and a Boston bound car collided at the Lynn and Boston railroad junction on Beach street and Nahant avenue Crescent Beach. Seven people sustained injuries including Miss Minnie Desmond Miss Nellie Denning and Mrs Shapiro. Injured were cared for at Nahant cottage before returning home. Patrolman Cobb aided the wounded until a physician arrived.

Man Found Dead On Richmond Street Steps

Officers from Station 1 found a man in his early 20s lying on the steps at 149 Richmond Street. He appeared asleep but could not be awakened. The body measured about 6 feet, 0 inches tall and weighed around 160 pounds with a smooth face. A receipt book bearing the address of J. H. Costello, 120 and 12 South Street, was the only clue today for identification.

On May 20 a bomb sent from La Plata Argentina was hidden in a box meant to explode when opened. The attempt targeted him but was thwarted due to suspicion.
