F D Whiting of Whitefield Maine responds to a New York letter writer arguing for a 16 to 1 silver standard. He urges Congress to restore pre 1873 coinage laws to align silver and gold values and challenges the opponent's logic citing Bryan on options and the likelihood silver bullion price will rise without free coinage.

Losing in foreign trade due to metal standards

A reader argues against J. E. B. on free silver and monetary standards.
