Mayor Hibbard’s aides James White and William Boudrot met at the mayor’s home then returned to City Hall to craft a reply to the Finance Commission’s latest criticisms of the Hibbard administration. The report criticized the city leadership and spurred an early official response.
All department heads were ordered to provide the Mayor's office with a comprehensive list of employees and the salaries paid within their departments. The directive continues on page five, first column.
Newport August 24. A large audience of 500 heard speeches at Mrs. O H P Belmonts Marble House on the Votes for Women campaign. Speakers included Rev Dr Anna Howard Shaw president of the national association Mrs Julia Ward Howe author and Mrs Belmont with Mayor P J Boyle serving as chairman.
Ticket and souvenir sales near 1500 dollars flow into the national association treasury. Admission to the house and the tent cost 5 dollars for both, with 1 dollar for house access alone. Exponents of woman's suffrage become the first visitors since 1900s, aside from a few family, staff. Marble House retains restricted access to lower floors and balcony. The lawn tent features garland drapery and a raised platform hosting literature and souvenir sales before speeches.
A 12 year old girl Florence Froton was struck by an auto owned by C. C. Converse of Boston and died. Several others were slightly injured in three accidents in Salem today and tonight. Converse has residences in Boston and Malden and an office at 95 Milk Street, Boston.
The six month old son of Rear Admiral Joseph Giles Eaton died after an eight hour illness with cholera infantum. An autopsy by Medical Examiner J W Spooner, requested by Mrs Eaton, found no immediate cause and samples were sent to Harvard Medical School for poison analysis amid claims by Mrs Eaton and her eldest daughter of previous poisoning attempts.
The retired Rear Admiral Eaton stays at the family home in Assinippi and warns he will sue for divorce over his wife’s allegations. Mrs. Eaton seeks a court ordered mental examination, regardless of Harvard Medical School results. An autopsy on the baby was delayed until Mrs. Eaton’s repeated demands. Dr. Cleverly found no suspicious illness and summoned Dr. Spooner for the State due to the mother's claims.
Boston's oldest woman Mrs Mary Hennigan of 40 Conant Street Roxbury died yesterday at 105. Born in Ireland in 1804 she outlived her husband by 33 years and had no children or close relatives in this country beyond a niece with whom she lived for 60 years. She will be buried from the Mission Church where she was an early member and the sole surviving first member next Thursday morning.
A daring burglary at the Royal Suit and Clock Co. on Summer Street ended when hackman Philip Davis stopped the thieves at Washington and Summer. About $2000 in dress goods were seized from the trio as they fled with two accomplices. Police took the suspects into custody.
Hackman Davis agents the burglar into custody after recognizing a burglary on Summer street. The thief directed a ride to Pitts street but was intercepted by Patrolman Jacobson on Hanover Washington and taken to Station 1. About $2000 in loot was recovered as officers rushed to the scene.
Dr. William P. Wesselhoeft prominent Boston homeopathic physician died at his York Harbor summer home at 8 30 tonight from intestinal trouble. Born Bath Penn Oct 8 1835 he moved to Boston about 20 years ago and served as consulting physician to the Massachusetts Homeopathic Hospital. Survived by son Dr. W F Wesselhoeft of 398 Marlboro Street.
About 300 long term inmates at Deer Island House of Correction went on strike over the noon meal of mutton stew with vegetables. Commissioner Vernon V. Skinner intervened, promising changes including corned beef and cabbage next Tuesday to end the mutiny.

A suspect named Brahm escapes custody after dashing past four officers in a Boston courthouse, slipping through basement passages toward Pemberton Square. Inspector Shields had just released him from custody after moving him from station 4. Police exposure includes Morse, Clark, Bresnahan, and a headquarters reporter as the page ends.
