British forces seize 20 villages as they push along a 10 mile front between Arras and Albert. Great gains and many German prisoners are reported while several towns fall into Allied hands. German counterattacks fail with losses.
Allied reports say the capture of Noyon is imminent as French and British forces press in the Somme Oise region. Mangin and Humbert advance near Soissons and between the Oise and Matz, threatening a evacuation of the Somme Oise salient. Haig renews the offensive between Albert and Arras.
Investigation into the Wells area murder of Mrs. Minnie O. Stevens Hall shifts to Harrington as exhumation plans begin for the victim’s body found near the town’s outskirts. The Rev. Henry H. Hall, pastor of Union Baptist Church, is charged in the crime. The case centers on disturbing domestic violence and a wife fearing harm.
A Boston man named Robert L. Smith his wife another woman and a man were arrested after signals flashing from Mt Washington summit drew a deputy sheriff’s suspicion in Gorham New Hampshire. They were taken to the Glen House to await naval intelligence bureau officers who were notified.

Andy Schuttinger rode Roamer as Salvator's old weight of 110 pounds. The 7 year old gelding broke from a chute with Lightning pacing him, stayed at best speed the whole distance, and finished clear of his pacer. Caiman earlier set the world mile record at Lingfield in 1900.
Colonel George T. Patterson United States Army commanding officer at Portsmouth Harbor post shot himself to death claiming overwork and a nervous breakdown. He stood before a mirror and used his service pistol. Patterson 46 years old entered West Point from Omaha and had served on the west coast and along the Mexican border.
