The Rt Rev Lawrence S McMahon D D bishop of Hartford died suddenly at Lakeville Conn at 9 50 pm on Aug 21 He had traveled from Hartford to Saratoga for his health and paused at Lakeville Born in 1835 in New Brunswick he studied in Boston Worcester Montreal and Rome and served as chaplain with the Twenty eighth Massachusetts Regiment in 1863 He was consecrated Hartford bishop in 1879 and went to Europe for health in 1891.

The British brig J. A. Hersey carrying 245 tons of logwood sank off Block Island on the night of the 18th. The crew and pilot W. F. Brave Police Rescue Fire Victims Hurts Officer
