The Oh Boy company girls visited the South Boston fish pier and collected funds from fishermen and clerks to aid bereaved Provincetown fishermen’s families. In the photo are Miss Helen Shipman and Miss Roberta Benys.
The Grand Army of the Republic will march through Boston streets today with 10 000 to 12 000 veterans expected in line. A mighty welcome awaits them as the parade starts at 10 o clock.
Boston hotels brim with veterans and their friends as conventions proceed. A large family reunion fills Mechanics’ Building, drawing sizable crowds and stirring local activity through the night.
Mayor Curley authored a City Hall inscription honoring Q A R veterans marching today. A 20 by 15 foot sign will feature the tribute on the front of City Hall as veterans pass the Mayor's stand. It proclaims faith in the Nation and recalls Union victory, abolition, and patriotism.

They oust crown prince forces from towns and heights, reaching depths up to a mile and a quarter in places and taking 4000 prisoners. The gains follow battles tied to Verdun’s costly German offensive and heavy losses on both sides.
The official French account details breakthroughs north of Verdun along an 18 kilometer front with depths exceeding two kilometers. It notes captures on both sides of the Meuse including Avecourt Wood Le Morte Homme Cumieres Talon Ridge Champneuville Mor mont Farm Hill 344 Hill 240 and Louvemont on the right bank. Unwounded prisoners exceed four thousand.
Thomas A Edison visited the White House with Secretary of the Navy Daniels. The wartime conference between Edison and the President concerned his investigations, though no details were given. Edison said he wished not to discuss the visit and would say nothing further.
Russian consul in Boston will act as escort for the Russian Mission today. He is appointed to represent Massachusetts on the terminal port facilities committee by the Council of National Defence.

Charles A. Wall Jr of Buffalo and Richard H. Mead of Boston were burned to death when an experimental airship caught fire during smoke bomb tests and crashed. Wall, 32, civil engineer, was training for aviation service. Mead, 27, an aviation instructor, had recently arrived from Mineola.
Wall and Mead tested a new bomb offered to the United States for spotting gun positions. After releasing a smoke burst they dropped a second bomb from the airship, which exploded and set the craft ablaze. The two men were found burned beyond recognition.
Worcester August 20 John J Cur nan of 38 Orange Street passed the physical test before the exemption board Division 2 and filed a claim to delay service until after the World Series. He said he would gladly serve after witnessing the Red Sox defeat the Giants this fall.
Governor McCall opposes drafting married men and others with dependents. The North End Division 4 local board began examinations with 23 men accepted for the new army, including five aliens who volunteered. Only three exemption claims were filed in a district with many foreign and poor families, amid an estimated 5000 aliens among 5500 draft ages.
President Wilson named Robert S. Lovett of the War Industries Board to direct priority transportation and ordered rail and steamship lines to prioritize Northwest bituminous coal shipments. A coal administrator is to be appointed soon with power to fix prices under the food control act. Wilson met with the Federal Trade Commission to review coal production costs and consulted coal expert David King.
Associate Medical Examiner Richardson ordered an investigation into Elizabeth Borden's death at 60 Lovering Street South End. Police suspect robbery and homicide after her body was found in the basement. authorities note a large sum of money may have been in the house.
Max Webber of Otis Street Revere owner of the house discovered the body and notified police. Dr Richardson will autopsy at City Hospital morgue after a morning examination. The deceased lived alone in a six story tenement and earned about 100 dollars recently from bank interest. relatives believed in Jamaica Plain. She worked three to four days weekly in domestic service.
Washington reports that Lord Cecil said entente governments will exchange views on Pope Benedict XVI's peace proposals. State Department sees no formal conference planned or primed ministers gathering. America cannot join a session due to time constraints.
The State Department has not joined European conferences but American military officers have participated in technical briefings. Officials say the approach to Pope peace proposals may require only diplomatic exchanges. No forecasted change in President Wilson's stance on peace conditions is expected.

Detroit beat New York 3 to 2 and Cleveland won 5 to 4 over Philadelphia with St Louis topping Washington 4 to 1. In the Eastern League Worcester shut out Hartford 2 0. Lawrence triumphed over New Haven 4 to 38 while New London crushed Spriagnete 0 first game Springfield 5 New London 2 second game 7 innings.
At ten this morning the remnant of the Grand Army of the Republic will march along its shortest route in its history. An estimated 1000 to 12000 veterans, a quarter of the 1904 Boston crowd, will take part in one of their final processions.
