Concert by Gilmore's Band Featuring Arbuckle Leads Afternoon

Gilmore's Band, conducted by Arbuckle, performed an afternoon concert for the meeting audience. The program included Bijouterie, Soldiers' Son, Martha, Mein, O Sweet Repose, Fra Diavolo, Remembrances, Promotionen, selections from Il Trovatore, and a Levy polka solo. Arbuckle led the ensemble in a series of engaging pieces that drew generous applause.

Races Listed For This Afternoon Run At Program

This afternoon features three races on the programme. The first is a two mile dash for horses not yet three minutes with eight entries. The second is a running race with fourteen entries including several strong horses from the Saratoga meeting. The third is a race for horses never beating 2.34 with eleven entries including Crown Prince and Jim Irving, among others with sharp Buffalo records.

Third Convention of the Blind Teachers Opens at Perkins

The third convention of the Teachers of the Blind began a three day session at Perkins Institution in South Boston with over fifty attending. Dr Howe hosted a morning reunion and lectures, as Asa D. Lord chaired the first afternoon session. Officials reported broad growth from six to about two thousand educated and seven thousand trained. The gathering admitted institution officers as corresponding members and discussed dues, governance, and public sentiment for blind education. A musical tribute honored guests as another session is set for this morning.

Inquest on Emma McElhaney Hearings Continue at City Hospital

The inquest into Emma McElhaney's death was adjourned to continue at City Hospital. Additional testimony described the killer intending to shoot his mother in law, delayed by outside intervention. Fourth Light Battery Enters Camp Hamilton Ipswich

About sixty men of the Fourth Light Battery moved into military quarters at Camp Hamilton Ipswich yesterday afternoon. The site offers fine scenery and ample pleasant arrangements for good weather. Gov Washburn and Gen Cunningham and staff are among today’s distinguished guests. Battery stays in camp through Saturday. Rear Admiral Green assumes command of North Atlantic Squadron

Rear Admiral Joseph F. Green took command of the North Atlantic Squadron at 11:30 am yesterday aboard the flagship Worcester off the Navy Yard and raised his flag. The Worcester received a thirteen-gun salute from Rear Admiral Steedman, station commander, as Green hails from Maine and entered the navy in 1825. The ship is expected to sail next week to the squadron’s headquarters. Accidents report: Lizzie Hopkins, six, fell from a roof onto Fifth Street, suffering serious internal injuries.
