Customs Officers in Near Accident on Chelsea Bridge

An automobile carrying United States customs officers B. a Sweeney J. P. Green and F. A. Ingersoll was pinned against the sidewalk on Chelsea bridge when an auto truck collided with it. The car sustained front wheel damage and one guard was bent. The occupants were not injured.

Battleships Sail For Maneuvers In Atlantic Fleet

The Atlantic fleet's 11 battleships sailed from Newport R I to Block Island Sound for maneuvers. On Friday they proceed to Hampton Roads then to Guantanamo Bay Cuba for target and torpedo practice after disembarking midshipmen who have cruised with the ships. Graves Grain Alcohol ad follows.

50 Years of Service Recognized with Gold Gift Cup

Charles F. Lewis, head of the accounting department at the R. H. White Company, received a silver loving cup filled with $1000 in gold coins at a ceremony marking his 50 years of continuous service. The silver cup and its contents symbolized a surprise celebration for Charles Lewis on his 60th anniversary as an employee. Treasurer George B. Blame Death to Vaccine Ties Vein to Child’s Death

Arthur S Laurillar and wife of Swampscott report the death of their five year old son from blood poisoning blamed on vaccination. The attending physician says death was caused by a cat scratch. The child visited grandmother Mrs Lorenzo Ames of East Saugus two weeks earlier and was vaccinated there. He fell ill three days before his death.

Burial of General Edward F. Jones in Boston

The ashes of General Edward F. Jones former Lieutenant-Governor of New York and commander of the Sixth Massachusetts Infantry were buried at Mt. Auburn after a simple funeral. His cremation occurred Sunday and his son Gerry Jones declined a military funeral offer from Governor Foss.

Aviator Abandons Prize of 25000 Dollars

Sydney Pickles substituting for Harry Hawker failed to take off as his hydro plane was buffeted by waves and water covered the engine. The two flights by Hawker earlier in the tour left him ill and unable to continue the 1600 mile coast tour of England and Scotland for the prize. The pilot and mechanic were rescued in danger of drowning.

Lightning strikes hit multiple Boston buildings and scene

A major thunderstorm caused fires and damage across Jamaica Plain Dorchester and Brighton. Buildings at 5 Ballard Street Jamaica Plain 19 Chase Street Dorchester and 88 Bigelow Street Brighton suffered roof and wiring damage. A 60 foot Blackstone Cigar pole on Columbus Avenue shattered, injuring workers and frightening spectators. A horse and wagon plunged into Jamaica Pond after a lightning shock, but rider escaped with injuries.

Four Prostrations in Cambridge Set Heat Record

Four men fell to the heat in Cambridge yesterday, setting a new yearly mark. The victims were John St. Clair, 45, East Cambridge. Owen Winterson, 47, Boston. John Donovan, 31, near Western Avenue. and Philip Fitzpatrick, 30, Coburn Avenue. All were taken to Cambridge Relief Hospital after collapsing on sidewalks and at work.

Lightning Destroys Norwood Barn. Firemen Stuck in Mud

A Norwood barn belonging to Albert Fales was destroyed by a lightning bolt while fire officials responded to the alarm yesterday afternoon. The fire spread quickly, with contents lost, valued at 3500 dollars, and the department’s trucks became mired in mud off Washington street as the bolt felled a tree across the road.

Lightning Strikes Brookline Buildings Amid Weekend Storm

A Brookline storm damaged several structures. The Church of the New Jerusalem on High and Irving streets lost its spire after a lightning bolt struck the cross. A chimney at a brick block on Boylston and Buckminster road was toppled as inspector Finnegan watched from the roof. Another chimney at Samuel Ingraham’s house on Tabor Street was demolished by lightning.

Starved boy case probes in Lisbon Falls area

Lewiston Maine August 18 charges by Mrs. Roland Whittum of Brunswick allege that Haydon Jones aged 13 died of starvation at Shiloh Me while he was under care of the Sanford colony. County Attorney Hines plans to inspect conditions with the Lisbon Falls clerk and Shiloh officials, as Rev. Frank W. Sandford the colony's head serves a 10 year sentence for manslaughter.
