President Huerta issues a midnight ultimatum to recognize his government and threatens severing relations with the United States. Officials in Washington report Huerta rejected American peace proposals and no official U S response was given as the night ended.
One fatality and many prostrations followed an intense heat wave and an electric storm that struck the city shortly after 3 p m yesterday. The storm was brief, weather observers say it may have benefited the Atlantic coast but midwestern residents question whether it did more harm than good.
A powerful storm drenched parts of Boston including Back Bay and Dorchester while sparing others. Thunder and lightning caused structural damage across Roxbury West Roxbury and Medford with several homes and a church affected. One man, James McNeal, 27, of Brighton, died from a fractured skull after a lightning strike at Brighton High School. Continued on Page 3-Fourth Col.
Samuel Gompers, president of the American Federation of Labor, travels to Boston to convey well wishes to the plumbers convention. He had been seriously ill but is not yet fully recovered.
The 18th biennial convention of the United Association of Plumbers Gas Fitters Steam Fitters and Steam Fitters Helpers opened at Faneuil Hall with about 500 delegates. Mayor Fitzgerald and Lieutenant Governor Walsh welcomed attendees. General President John R. Alpine spoke on past work. credentials were accepted and sessions briefed.
Police Inspector Dwyer and three officers were held on 50 bail each for trial on assault charges after they invaded Healy's restaurant to enforce the mayor's curfew. Two other officers were discharged for lack of proper identification.
Boston won 4 to 1 over Cincinnati in the first game while rain interrupted the second. New York defeated Pittsburg 5 to 3 in the first game and led 5 to 1 in the second. Chicago routed Philadelphia 10 to 4 as Brooklyn swept St. Louis with 7 to 1 in the first game and 6 to 2 in the second.
Chicago defeats Boston 1 to 0 and Detroit tops Philadelphia 5 to 4. Washington edges Cleveland 6 to 3, while New York beats St. Louis 4 to 2. Full game stories follow on Pages 8 and 9.

Reservemen Frank Daniels and Michael Hayes move to East Boston and Boylston street. Joseph Creed moves to Charlestown. New reservemen appointed include Clougherty Cunniff Durham Griffin Hallberg Hickey McDonough McInnis Mellor Mullen Quilty Roach Rodden Rowe Sheffield Twomey and Whelan.
A photograph shown in Newburg identifies ex Assemblyman Richard T. Butler as the man who led the party of five responsible for Thaw's release. William Gordon of the Holland Hotel at Fishkill Landing confirmed the image, with hotel clerk and manager Spence also present.
Harry K Thaw remains at large as New York authorities issue a Dutchess county warrant charging conspiracy in the escape. His mother plans to travel to Pennsylvania where legal efforts to block extradition may unfold. Dr Britton Evans and other allies prepare to accompany Mrs Thaw as Thaw hides amid reports of yacht movements and a mass pursuit along the Atlantic coast.
In Everett on August 18 Erwin Tungren a station engineer lined up five people against the Gray Hotel wall and after robbing them fired two pistols killing Dorothy Dunbar proprietor of the hotel and wounding two others Tungren escaped.
