Memorial Service Honors Gloucester Fishermen Lost At Sea

Girls' Practical Arts High School Opens for Girls in Roxbury

The High School of Practical Arts for Girls at Greenville and Winthrop streets Roxbury will be ready for occupancy at the start of the upcoming term. The five story yellow brick building seats 1000 pupils and is devoted to cooking millinery and dressmaking. Constructed at about 35000 it marks the first public school entirely for girls in these trades. About 600 girls are enrolled with some housed at Sarah J Parker School and others in Dorchester.

Clam Defeats Eel in Curious Charles River Fight

Dedham resident Michael Morrisey witnessed a bizarre battle along the Charles River near Cottage Farm Bridge. A clam and an eel fought over a dam with the eel striking first, the clam snapping its head and killing the eel before Morrisey retrieved them and ate the clam.

Northfield General Conference Closes After 17 Weeks

The 31st Northfield General Conference for Christian Workers ended after a 200 minister sub conference. Dan Crawford, a missionary from Africa, spoke of Bible translation in a language with 19 genders and his 23 years in central Africa, saying he will return this fall and not leave the Bantu people.

Edward B. Wadsworth of Everett claims the pancake eating championship of Boston after a light lunch in a local restaurant. He reportedly devoured 70 pancakes and a pound and a half of sausages before the eatery closed at midnight, proving a surprising long distance capacity.
