At Bruce Station six miles from Norfolk two cars of an Atlantic Coast Line excursion train from Kingston North Carolina plunged through an open draw. Forty five to fifty black passengers were killed or injured as the first car sank in about 12 feet of water. The engineer and fireman escaped. Tickets indicate orders to halt at the bridge were ignored. The wreck scene was horrific with passengers drowning and fleeing the submerged coach. Separately Albert C Burrage is named in a fraud suit over Copper Range shares alleging theft and unlawful transfers involving multiple firms and Lawson and Hayden Stone & Co.
