Marsh in Cell as Suspect in Chicago Murder Case

Brockton police arrest 24 year old L B Marsh alias George Lawrence after a Chicago telegram names him a murder suspect in William Bates case. The British schooner Lizzie C Rich under Captain Ward arrived at port from St John New Brunswick after nearly a week of battle with fog and a gale. The lumber laden vessel faced waterlogged decks, exhausted crew, and constant pumping before reaching safety. The captain said the voyage began with dense fog, followed by a southwest breeze that intensified into a heavy gale, forcing men to rigging to avoid being washed overboard. The crew endured cold and hunger as the deck load shifted and the vessel labored. The ship will now be placed on blocks and caulked.

Boston pile drivers reach wage and hour accord

For the first time in Boston area history engineers and emblyers secure a wage and hour agreement. The minimum wage is set at 18 dollars with an eight hour day. The nine hour day demand is also noted by Foundry Employees Union 23 and Caremakers Union with most firms agreeing to a 2.75 dollar daily increase.

Idlewild in peril on Lake Erie with 200 women and children

Idlewild, a steamer laden with 200 women and children, was tossed rudderless for five hours on Lake Erie in a high wind. Four tugs brought the vessel to port after shore observers summoned help. Officers kept order among passengers.

Explosion injures five on Boston Harbor dredging near Lovell's Island

A large steel drill on the scow Ajax struck a stick of dynamite during channel widening in the narrows. Five men were injured and two narrowly escaped death as the blast damaged the vessel and sent crew overboard. all were later treated at Fort Warren Hospital and expected to recover.

New Shoreham Steamer Sinks After Wreck Collision at Harbor

The New Shoreham steamship, carrying about 100 passengers from Providence, struck a sunken wreck entering Block Island Harbor.
