In Haverhill police say Margaret Trevor known as Margaret Love shot Thomas Nickerson in the Haverhill Gas Co office. She then left the office and drove Nickerson's car to the Boston & Maine depot, a detail uncovered in the investigation.
Washington August 14 The House, a day after passing the wool bill over Taft's veto, again overrides the president by 173 to 83 to adopt the steel and iron tariff. The Senate moves to pass the Democratic cotton tariff bill as La Follette's tariff board plan fails 46 to 19. An amendment scraps most of the Canadian reciprocity law except the pulp and paper section.
The repassed steel and wool bills move to the Senate with a Friday vote looming. Insurgent Republicans shift sides in both chambers aiding the Democratic tariff agenda while Cannon condemns the defection. Underwood notes no agreement on the sugar tariff revision as House votes to return to conference.
Nickerson, engaged to Miss Phyllis Sherwood in New York, says press reports of a shooting are false and promises to explain when next seen. Miss Trevor, linked to the incident, previously sued for breach of promise and once confronted Nickerson at his home. Police doubt claims of Miss Trevor harming herself. Only one of three shots hit, striking Nickerson in the right hand.
Three men in the real estate business Milton J. Sawyer of Medford George T. Nickerson of Dorchester and John J. Swift of Cambridge were jailed on larceny charges after allegedly stealing two diamond rings and a watch valued at 335 dollars from Loretta Ryan of Roxbury. Each was held on 750 dollars bail and the three wives await news as the men remain jailed until the grand jury session.
The 6 year old Joan J Kelley of Brookline died after a bonfire accident near his Chestnut Hill home. His Indian costume caught fire from a bonfire burning carpenter's shavings, burning one side of his body. Andrew J White rushed to help and suffered burns as he removed the flames with his bare hands. Dr Carlton Francis attended the boy. initial hope faded as the shock proved fatal.
Bar Harbor August 14 A persistent burglar who has unsettled the town for 10 days again proved elusive. He entered the Turrets, the New York Mrs Alfred Anson summer home, while the family was dining away from the house but fled before taking valuables.
New York Aug 14 Word reached the district attorney that Bridgie Webber and Harry Vallon have been persuaded by representatives of the three men named by Burns as the directors of police blackmail to conceal the identity of the men for whom Lieutenant Becker was working. James M Sullivan, declining to act any longer as Wallons counsel, hurried from the West Side Prison to tell Mr Whitman that the threats and persuasions of the triumvirate the lawyer politician the hotel man and the police department official have silenced Jack Roses fellow informers.
Miss Olga Lawson, about 16, of Revere, was left to drown by a motor boat owner yesterday afternoon a half mile off shore. W J Reilly a compositor on the Boston Post rushed to her aid and swam with her to shore, preventing a drowning tragedy.
Miss Lawson and Mr. Hopkins struggle against heavy wind and whitecaps reaching shallow water in rising danger. Reilly observes, then saves Miss Lawson and assists Hopkins to shore as the motor boat drifts away.

Fred D. Pratt, a seven foot three inch man, was arrested on Essex street Melrose for intoxication. Police struggled to contain him as he stretched his enormous feet through barred cell openings and finally lay asleep on a cot wedged against the wall.
The Dundee Advertiser reports that the government may act if inflammatory speeches by A Bonar Law Sir Edward Carson and Frederick E Smith incite Ulster revolt. It recalls that Parnell and associates were jailed in Kilmainham under similar circumstances.
Frank Janis aged 60 of 35 Liverpool Street East Boston and Mrs Pearl Barton aged 29 of 2 Asylum Street East Boston were found dead in their beds. Authorities reported no immediate signs of foul play. Funeral arrangements pending local coroner's inquiry.
William Anderson aged 26 of 90 Bower Street Roxbury Richard J Mooney 79 of 9 Temple Street West End Patrick McCreed 57 of 227 East Sixth Street South Boston and Albert Smith 51 of Eastern Avenue Malden were overcome in and around city streets and hospital grounds near Relief and City Hospitals with locations including Dudley Street McAllen Street Merrimac and Staniford Streets and 93 Staniford Street.
A severe heat wave gripping Boston and nearby areas caused two deaths and four prostrations. Frank Janis of East Boston and Mrs. Pearl Barton of Asylum Street were found dead in their beds, the first in the morning and the second at eight last night.
Widespread storms wrecked property and blew down wires across the state with Weymouth and Dedham especially affected. Four people fainted from heat in Boston, a brief respite followed by light showers. Temperatures fell from 87 to 74 degrees and then rose again, marking a rare morning high compared with several days this summer. Continued on Page 2-Fifth Column.

Lincoln Warren, a Wrentham lineman severely burned a week ago, was saved by his 20 year old daughter Myra who donated skin grafts from her body to cover his wounds at Massachusetts General Hospital. The operation is considered very successful and Myra was discharged after the grafts were transferred.
A Massachusetts man nearly electrocuted at work in Wrentham was badly burned and rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital. After grafting from his son proved insufficient, his daughter Miss Warren bravely donated skin from her thigh, with multiple patches grafted to his body to aid healing.
Newport R I Aug 14 The government will erect a searchlight station on Graves Point Fishing Club land owned by J Pierpont Morgan. Officials say the spot is strategically valuable for coast defense and the clubhouse will be spared while the apparatus goes up beside it.
