Aaron A. Sargent, ex United States Senator from California, died in San Francisco. Born September 28, 1827 in Newburyport Massachusetts, he worked as a printer before moving to California during the Gold Rush. He served as Nevada County district attorney in 1855 56, represented California in the Thirty seventh Forty first and Forty second Congresses, and filled the Senate seat from 1878 to 1879. He earned an A M from the College of California in 1865.
Frank Byram Fred Evans and Thomas Collins three Michigan City youths went sailing on the lake. A capsized yacht with sails set was found drifting near shore about fourteen miles from Curcaco. A body resembling Evans was found entangled in the sails, and it is believed the yacht overturned in a squall with all three occupants perishing.
