Voyage Memoir of a Ship Across Arctic Waters to San Francisco

The narrative describes a violent sea storm on the voyage, damage to boats, and a calm return to course toward San Francisco. By Nov 3 the Navarch of New Bedford anchored in San Francisco harbor after nearly three years cruising in the Arctic. The voyage yielded about 20 000 pounds of whalebone, 1 000 barrels of oil, and a profit under $100 000. The ship then rested in Oakland for the winter, while Mrs. Cook completed her first voyage and the narrator traveled home to Provincetown, Massachusetts.
