In a heated gallery scene many women and soldiers applaud Senator Lodge after his sharp arraignment of the League. The demonstrators then hiss and boo a Democratic critic as Vice President Marshall maintains order with a warning that the galleries may be cleared.
Boston plans a limited return of five cent fares for short trips with day service only and no transfers issued. The measure follows a suggestion by an outside expert and signals a cautious step toward easing the elevated system’s high fares in the greater city.
The line will run from the North station to the corner of Franklin and Washington via Portland Mer rimac and Washington streets, then return via Franklin Federal Congress State Devonshire Washington and Canal streets. Service operates on a five minute headway from 7 a m to 7 p m on weekdays.
In Portland on August 12 a nine year old boy, H n Johnson, son of John Johnson, was killed by a revolver during a game of Indian at the Hansen residence on Cumberland avenue. The Hansen boy, six months younger, showed police how the accident occurred.
Railroad officials say a vote is being taken on all northern eastern systems and will not favor returning to work. They believe the president's demand will not be deaf to their stance.

In Brockton on Centre street the gasolene tank exploded on the eighth floor of the Anglian building. Miss Lillian Harvey, 22, of Stoughton, suffered severe burns while three others received minor injuries. Employees panicked, some fleeing and others aiding the injured. the fire was extinguished and Harvey was taken to hospital in critical condition.
Bay State railway carmen, unhappy with a War Labor Board decision in New York, faced a 12 percent wage increase to a maximum of 50.4 cents an hour. They had demanded higher pay, noting a 60 cent per hour rate granted to Boston Elevated carmen after a four day strike.
Peggy Wood Donald Brian and Wallace Eddinger bought the entire rights to the comedy Buddies from Selwyn & Co for 150000 dollars just before the curtain rose, each star an equal owner, to avert an Actors Equity strike.
