Murdered and Then Robbed in New York Case

W G Martin a 35 year old millinery store owner from Toronto was found murdered in an uptown New York apartment. The body showed two deep stab wounds and a gag with hands tied behind the back. His pockets were rifled though cash and jewelry were missing. Martin had arrived yesterday to buy goods for his Toronto shop.

Man injured by live rail at Forest Hills station

John Kelly 34 of 4 Allard Place Roxbury spent the night at City Hospital after a dust pan in his hand touched a live third rail at the Forest Hills elevated station. A laborer for the Boston Elevated Railway he was cleaning between the tracks at about 12 30 when the pan brushed the rail. He suffered a severe shock and burns to hands face and neck.

State Probe Targets Charity Fund Collections

Attorney General Swift reported charges involve fundraising by collectors who take a percentage of receipts. The probe may extend beyond the United States Volunteer Life Saving Corps, with several charitable associations under review. William Penn Jackson of Boston is treasurer and may provide facts. the organization runs volunteer life saving crews at beaches and shore resorts, with about 40 percent of funds collected directed to the collector as expenses. Chief Whitney of the State police assists in the inquiry.

Police Women Yet to Score Convictions in Chicago

Chicago police women arrested two suspects since going on duty last week. The second case ended with Fred Bentley an insurance solicitor discharged by Municipal Judge Mahoney after Officer Alice Clement testified he followed her all day. Bentley denied intentional annoyance and said he waited in a hotel lobby for a woman friend.

Laundry horse in mad dash injures man in South End

A horse hitched to a wagon owned by Pilgrim Laundry Company bolted through South End streets just before 7 pm, throwing driver Louis A. Meroth from the wagon and dragging him along the pavement. A policeman caught the horse on Stoughton street. Meroth suffered a cut above the eye and severe bruises but returned home after City Hospital treatment.

Children Sent to Childless Families from New York

Sixty four wards of the New York Foundling Hospital left New York for the West today to be placed with childless families in Colorado Nebraska North Dakota and South Dakota. The children traveled in special cars under the care of two Sisters of Charity each carrying bedding and a small clothing outfit.
