A political slate endorses David I. Walsh for governor with Rich ard H. Long for lieutenant governor and Frank J. Donahue as secretary of state. Frederick W. Mansfield would be state treasurer, Frank H. Pope state auditor, and Thomas J. Boynton attorney general.
The Democratic organization settled its ticket with Richard H. Long of Framingham as lieutenant governor candidate and Frederick W. Mansfield as state treasurer. Joseph L. P. St. Coeur was dropped to make room for labor representation. Mansfield has long been linked to the American Federation of Labor and has served as its counsel in legislative matters.
Rumors circulate in Narragansett Pier Rhode Island of a new lead in the $125000 jewel robbery at Charles Cary Rumsey’s home. A detective visited the Rumsey cottage and departed with a household member, while Rumsey and his wife refused to comment. The inspector and servant reportedly went to New York.
Martin Durant a 38 year old resident of Woburn were dragged 50 feet by an electric car in Medford square during a late night row. He suffered abrasions to both knees and multiple bruises and was taken to Medford police station for treatment and questioning.
Brooklyn wins the first game 4 to 3 and the second 7 to 3 against Pittsburg. Other games were postponed by inclement conditions. Sporting news appears on Pages 10 and 11.
Washington August 13 Henry Lane Wilson ambassador to Mexico faced immediate discharge after his resignation to take effect Oct 14 was cited by President Wilson amid controversy over a British claim that Huerta recognition followed his congratulatory speech the president ordered inquiry to verify the report and considered accepting the resignation immediately
The government has informally sounded out foreign governments and learned they will likely refrain from actions that would embarrass the peace policy of President Wilson toward Mexico and are inclined to support it.
In Lynn a snake hunt is planned for next Sunday led by naturalist C. H. Clark. E. Frank Tarbell killed a large rattlesnake last Sunday and sent it for skinning while describing a much larger snake seen in the Snakes' Den section. Tarbell reports additional snakes in the Lynn woods.
Marsha Warrington remained the principal witness as Maury Diggs, former California architect, faces Mann Act charges for transporting her from Sacramento to Reno for immoral purposes. Cross examination was postponed and jurors were cautioned not to discuss the case.
The woman testified that Diggs induced her to leave home against her will and judgment and paid for transportation for a Reno trip not merely a platonic episode. He prompted questions in cross examination and watched her veiled face as she reaffirmed key points.
Boston Moulders' Union with 200 Hyde Park Foss plant workers nearly votes on walking out to aid 1500 peers in an 11 week dispute. No action taken. members remain neutral awaiting international sanction.
A Cork Queenstown deputation travels to London to challenge the postmaster-general’s ruling allowing Cunard mail steamers to omit Queenstown as a port of call. They contend the harbor is safe, noting the larger Olympic already calls there without issue.
Washington August 13 C Leslie Reynolds superintendent of national botanical gardens collapsed and died of heart failure while pursuing youths throwing stones at glasshouses Reynolds 55 a 49 year veteran of the gardens and developer of the American Beauty rose was a native of Montgomery County Maryland
Amesbury reports Arthur M. Coe aged 20 drowned when a rowing boat capsized in the Merrimac River at Merrimacport around 10:30 tonight. His two female companions were rescued.
Miss Emily Evarts and Miss Esther Cuckwell, both seventeen from Roxbury and Merrimac, drown after a rowing accident near Merrimacport. Evarts swam for shore and guided others, while Cuckwell clung to the boat as Gae disappeared under the current. Fred A. Parker rescued Cuckwell but could not find the third boy. Evarts is daughter of Rev. William M. Evarts and a Boston Girls Latin School student. Cuckwell, daughter of William Cuckwell, Merrimac fire chief, had just graduated Merrimac High School.

Mrs. Cyrus Wakefield formerly Miss Susie Stuart of Melrose filed a libel for divorce on grounds of intoxication against Cyrus Wakefield son of Wakefield's founder. She seeks alimony and attached $35,000 in his property. They married 11 years ago and have a 10 year old son Cyrus Jr. The couple traveled to Maine July 22. she later left for Kennebunkport with their son while he stays in Nashua, New Hampshire. The case will be heard in Middlesex Court in September with attorney William A. Morse for the plaintiff.
In Belmont New Hampshire a grain elevator owned by John R. Dearborn and a double tenement house owned by Mrs A A Smith were consumed by fire. One resident escaped by leaping from a second story window with an infant in his arms. Loss estimated at 26000 dollars.
Hamburg August 13. The month long walkout in the shipbuilding industry at Hamburg Stettin and Kiel ended with its official declaration as a failure. Employers granted none of the workers demands despite the strike being against the union executive.
