Journey Tailors Gaining in New York

Leader Schoenfeld of the Brotherhood of Tailors denied plans for another conference with contractors. Sixty cooperative shops opened this morning employing about 800 men. Schoenfeld says by Saturday all men will be employed and unsigned contractors unable to obtain hands. Over 200 contractors signed the Brotherhood's new agreement. Their shops employ 4000 men.

McKinley Busy As Letter Of Acceptance Nears

Major McKinley continues work on his acceptance letter as a flood of mail arrives from across the nation. A Muskegon McKinley Club of about one thousand members formed, and surviving members of his old regiment plan to visit him tomorrow afternoon, a unit once featuring Rutherford B. Hayes and General Rosecrans. Chicago’s Commercial Travellers’ Association, several hundred strong, will travel by special train on August 29 to extend respects.

In Johnstown Pennsylvania on August 11 1900 William Jennings Bryan almost missed the Pittsburgh to New York Pennsylvania train. He woke late after hard work and fatigue. Supporters welcomed him at Union Station and Greensburg Latrobe with cheering crowds and handshakes as a sleeper car was provided by James Kerr to carry Bryan and associates.

Bryan Crowd Surges At Lancaster Train Platform

In Lancaster on August 11 a crowd of 1200 packed the station as Mr. Bryan spoke from the rear platform of his car. The rush to shake his swollen hands grew fierce while women and a brass band stayed at a distant end. No stop occurred until the train reached Philadelphia.

Democratic national committee to pick national headquarters site

The Democratic national committee met in executive session to decide where to locate the national headquarters, with possible sites in Chicago or Washington and Washington favored by some. A 25 member executive committee and a 9 member campaign committee were authorized, with Senator Jones as an ex officio member. A follow up meeting is set for noon tomorrow at the same location.

A H Pile of San Francisco secretary of the national committee of the silver party, missing since last Tuesday, was found drowned in the Potomac River. He had a large sum of money and no signs of self harm, with friends suspecting foul play after his disappearance last week.

Honest Money Convention Heads to New Haven

In New Haven Connecticut Aug 11 a strong rush for admission tickets is reported for the Honest Money convention set for tomorrow night. Indorsing the Chicago platform the York county Democratic convention backed Bryan and Sewall for national tickets. A resolution urged the State convention to reconvene to revise the State ticket, and the motion to table it was defeated by a large majority.

Missing Florence Collings Leaves Town in Mystery

Florence May Collings, 17, of 33 Cottage Street East Boston, vanished from home after August 1. Seen once since then, last seen boarding a Boston bound Arlington car at Lake Street. Her father John Collings is a repairer for the New York New Haven Hartford railroad. She had worked at Barnard & Co.'s bindery on Province Street and reportedly planned to leave for Portland citing dissatisfaction with earnings. A young Arlington man, Herford Saunders, is linked to the case, though he denies seeing her in Arlington.

Mayor Bancroft delivered the full decision in the cloyes case against Sergeant Dennis Corcoran of Station 3. Corcoran loses twenty one days pay sixty eight dollars for using disrespectful language to a superior officer. He is acquitted on intoxication on duty and assault charges.

At Trenton New Jersey on August 11 a crowd of about two hundred greeted Huntington. Mr Bland spoke to the crowd while Mr and Mrs Bryan shook hands with supporters. Both Bland and Bryan were cheered and a Lewiston Junction turnout followed. Counter cheers for McKinley were heard as Mrs Bryan drew large attention.

The Massachusetts Federation of Labor executive council released a finding that W Murray Crane has not antagonized organized labor. Investigations showed no Crane link to the North Adams Transcript and that resolutions against him were unauthorized by the local Central Labor Union. The council withdraws the prior censure and expresses regrets to Crane while condemning misrepresentation. In a friendly five inning baseball game at Mountain Rock Grove Lakeview Lowell defeated Boston 19 to 9. Boston battery Codman Mahoney faced Lowell Murphy Donovan. Dedham Fire Damages and Carriage Crash Reported

In Dedham on August 11 the house of Joseph Bringley on Oakland Street, East Dedham, sustained fire and water damage estimated at 500 dollars while occupied by William Taylor. In Germantown a carriage accident at Rockland and Washington streets sent Thomas Greaty, wife, and infant son from the carriage. the wife dislocated her right shoulder, the husband sustained a hip injury, the baby escaped injury.

Typhoid Outbreak Traced to Local Milk Supply near Cambridge

A surge of typhoid cases near Central Square Cambridge is linked by Dr Farnham and Professor Sedgwick of the State Board of Health to a milkman employee who has the disease. The man has ceased selling milk.

Queen’s sixty year reign marked for 60th anniversary

Victoria’s Wish from London reports the Queen will have reigned sixty years on June 20, next year making her the longest serving British sovereign. Plans for observance before sixty years have been dismissed as she desires celebrations only after the full sixty years are completed.

Dynamite Accident Injures Two Clinton Workers

At West Berlin shafts two E. D. Smith & Co. drillers Daniel Dean and Daniel Hawkins were wounded when a dynamite charge in a prior blast detonated. Dean suffered a severely cut left eye and may lose sight. Hawkins sustained a scalp wound and eye injuries. They were taken to Clinton Hospital for treatment.

Obituary notices report James Cashman of East Boston aged 76 died at his daughter's home leaving a widow and two children. He was keeper of Race Point lighthouse Provincetown for sixteen years.
