Enterprise voyage spans twenty days at sea

Lieutenant Commander Edward M. Hughes reports the USS Enterprise traveled from Boston to Southampton mostly under sail in twenty days, twenty two hours and fifty five minutes. Cadets are in good health and morale. About seventy boys took three days of leave for London. more may visit Paris. The Sarato was found in port at Southampton. Enterprise left Southampton July 29 and arrived Havre July 30, with a likely departure to Gibraltar soon.

Fire destroys rear woodwork shop on Portland and Travers

A two alarm blaze at the corner of Portland and Travers streets damaged Allen & Co wood working’s basement stock and nearby outlets. Acting Chief Johnson of Ladder 1 was thrown from a buggy and injured while directing firefighters. Total insured loss estimated around three thousand dollars.

Fanny McPherson Held on Larceny Charges in Municipal Court

Fanny McPherson alias Mary Livingston alias Frances Innhart was arraigned in Municipal Criminal Court before Judge Dewey and held in 1000 bail on two larceny counts and a charge of fraudulently obtaining board. She faced accusations from Meyer Jonasson & Co and George B. Keeler totaling about 75. However the bail was set, and the hearing postponed to next Wednesday. Police report identify her by Bertillon measurements and claim a confession, while histories suggest a long criminal record.
